Fiona Apple’s Latest Album ‘Fetch the Bolt Cutters’ Wins Best Alternative Album at the Grammys
Fiona Apple has won the Grammy for Best Alternative Album for Fetch the Bolt Cutters, making this her first Grammy in 23 years.
Fiona Apple took home Best Alternative Album for the critically acclaimed Fetch the Bolt Cutters. She also took home Best Rock Performance for her song “Shameika,” a standout that appears on the album. Despite these two wins making Apple a three-time Grammy winner, she was not in attendance.
Fiona’s good friend, Zelda Hallman, took to Twitter to share a video of Fiona revealing why she does not want to attend the Grammys. She reveals in the video, “I don’t want to be on national television, I’m just not made for that kind of stuff anymore.” She continues that her sobriety is something she is committed to and the entertainment industry can put her sobriety in jeopardy. Apple then encourages any watching to sign a petition to keep courts virtual.

Fans have praised Apple’s decision to not attend the Grammys. Apple knows the entertainment industry is dangerous having been in the industry since the late nineties. In 1997, at just age 19, she won the MTV Award for Best New Artist. Her speech made headlines and gained her unwanted exposure. After under such intense media scrutiny, she does not want to be exposed to a toxic environment that could threaten her sobriety.
Fiona Apple on why she did not perform at the Grammys, “I want to stay sober and I can’t do that sober. It doesn’t feel safe to me, to be in that kind of exposure, scrutiny, comparison to people.” You rock lady!
