Smollett had been nominated for an NAACP Award in the category for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Letitia Dandridge in the HBO drama series, Lovecraft Country. Smollett was in great company; the nominees were Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder), Angela Bassett (9-1-1), Brandee Evans (P-Valley), and Simone Missick (All Rise). Viola Davis had ended up winning the award for her role as Annalise Keating on ABC‘s How To Get Away With Murder.

Smollett is not mad about the loss at all, as she writes in an Instagram post that she “lost to her Queen, Viola Davis.” She then gives a shout-out to her fellow nominees, as she writes, “But for real- there’s no such thing as a loss when you’re able to stand alongside such legends and queens.” She then tagged Bassett, Davis, Evans, and Missick.

Fans have taken to social media to commend Smollett on her next-level acting abilities in Lovecraft Country. While fans wish Smollett could have come away with it, Smollett was so proud to be recognized among such incredible talent.

For those that want to watch Lovecraft Country, feel free to stream the drama series on HBO Max.
