Actress Kristen Stewart is cast to star as the leading lady in Spencer. The director of the film, Pablo Larraín, a Chilean filmmaker, has notably directed the Academy Award-nominated films No and Jackie. Spencer will follow three pivotal days in the late 1990s around Christmastime. Stewart has stated much enthusiasm for the role. In an interview with Instyle Magazine, she expressed that, “I haven’t been this excited about playing a part, by the way, in so long.” She said. Stewart also realizes the challenges of the role, more specifically nailing the British accent, “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it’s so, so distinct and particular.” The actress noted. “I’m working on it now and already have my dialect coach.”

The most striking aspect of Stewarts’ casting of Princess Di is how similar the two women look. It’s not just the face, eyes, and hair but the overall presence Stwart emits. The styling is uncanny, and many fans have been quick to share their excitement for the upcoming film. Stewart channeled Princess Diana through her signature blonde bob haircut, navy and red varsity jacket, light wash jeans, and tan boots in the tweet placed above.

The film will not focus on the Princess’s death rather showcase her fraying relationship with her husband and the royal family and her unconditional love for her two sons, Prince Harry and William. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Stewart said,”[Spencer] takes place over three days, and it’s this really poetic, internal imagining of what that might have felt like, rather than giving new information.” The film is expected to be released sometime in 2021, but no official release date or trailer has been made available.
