New Trailer Released For Psychological Thriller ‘Flashback’ Starring Dylan O’Brien
In the latest trailer release, Dylan O’Brien leads the cast of Flashback through a mind-bending psychological tale set for release on June 4. The new trailer shows O’Brien searching for a missing friend from his past played by Maika Monroe. Previously titled The Education of Frederick Fitzell the movie was written and directed by Christopher MacBride and produced by Lionsgate.

“One of the things that excites me most about this film is people finally getting to see how good Dylan is in it,” MacBride told ET. “He gives an incredible performance. I can’t wait for people to see what I saw him do on set.”
Known for his roles in Teen Wolf, Maze Runner, and most recently Love and Monsters, O’Brien has never done a movie like this before. Aside from O’Brien and Monroe, the thriller boasts a well-known cast of actors including Hannah Gross (Mindhunter), Emory Cohen (The OA), and Keir Gilchrist (It’s Kind of a Funny Story).
Since 2018, the movie has undergone name changes and stalled production. In 2020, the movie premiered at the Sitges Film Festival under its original name but was never made public. Nobody knew if the movie would even be released. Three years later, fans are overjoyed with having a definitive release date – now under a new title.

For anyone who‘s confused: #Flashback used to be called „The Education of Fredrick Fitzell“.
“I’m excited for this film to finally be out in the world,” O’Brien said to ET. “It’s trippy, but incredibly human. I think the emotional depth of the story will surprise people.”

In Flashback, 30-year-old Frederick Fitzell (O’Brien) works in the corporate world while life around him grows more depressing. After a confrontation with his past, Fred is lead down a cerebral path in search of Cindy (Monroe), a missing friend from high school. And there’s a mystery drug called Mercury to aid Fred in his journey.

“The film doesn’t fit into any easy to describe genre box. It’s part psychological thriller, part drama, part horror, part coming-of-age story,” MacBride told ET.

After a year of waiting, the movie will be released in specific theaters and available for rent everywhere on June 4. For now, at least there’s a trailer to watch on repeat (again and again).
