Daughter of Actress Kate Winslet is All Grown Up, Getting Roles Under Different Surname
Kate Winslet shared that her 20-year-old daughter, Mia Threapleton acted in the lead role in the 2020 movie Shadows, following in her mother’s footsteps – only under a different surname. Winslet opened up to British TV host Lorraine Kelly in an interview Monday night. The Oscar-winning actress is private when it comes to her family life, but in the interview you could see Winslet beaming with motherly love over her daughter’s earned success.
Rightfully so, as Winslet explains how important it was to her daughter’s self-esteem that she take on roles without anyone recognizing her family connections. Threapoleton grew up with two parents working in entertainment. Winslet has been co-parenting the young actress with former husband and longtime filmmaker Jim Threapleton, for him Mia gets her surname.
“What’s been really great for her is that she has a different surname, so that initial job out of the gate, she slipped right under the radar and the people who cast her had absolutely no idea she was my daughter,” Winslet stated. “And, of course, that was my biggest fear.”

Threapoleton is working her way up in the Hollywood scene. She most recently starred as Alma in the 2020 independent film Shadows, where she faced a post-apocalyptic world with a dysfunctional family dynamic. She since has two film credits to her name, and a new project in the works.
“I never actually spent much time around sets that my mum was working on. It was always a special treat. It’s a very different experience when it is happening to you, and not just something I was getting to observe from time to time. I really understand why my mum has always impressed on us how hard the work is. She is right! And I loved every second of it,” Threapoleton mentioned to Variety last November.
Meanwhile, her ‘mum’ has been busy appearing in the 2020 movie Ammonite in the HBO show Mare of Eastown, and her longtime following are just as impressed as ever.

Now both women are hard at work on their latest projects. Threapoleton is off in the Czech Republic filming a new series while Winslet will be rejoining her Avatar cast mates as they continue to film Avatar 2.
