Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain will premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival before arriving to theaters on July 16. Roadrunner is produced by Focus Features and directed by Oscar-winner Morgan Neville who gave us the 2019 bio-pic Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Following its theatrical release this summer, the documentary exploring the late celebrity chef and storyteller’s life will be available for streaming on CNN and HBO Max.

According to the Tribeca Film Festival Roadrunner will be honored “with the same energy, curiosity, and deep humanity that made Anthony Bourdain the superstar whose life touched so many.” It will be considered as a “spotlight documentary.”

Bourdain made a name for himself as a world renowned chef, bestselling author, TV host, and more as he spent his life traversing the world looking for interesting people and exciting cuisine. His 2000 book “Kitchen Confidential” showed readers a ‘behind the scenes look’ at the restaurant industry in the United States. His CNN series Parts Unknown won 12 Emmys over it’s five-year production and he worked with ABC and Food Network to produce and appear in a variety of cooking shows. Over time, Bourdain became a beacon of culture, storytelling, and cuisine.

In June 2018, it was announced that Bourdain died by suicide at the age of 61 while staying at a French hotel. The news struck a chord for many in the entertainment industry along with his many fans. Meanwhile, the circumstances of his death continued the much-needed conversation surrounding mental health and one’s public image. He was an inspiration for many, which is what Roadrunner sets out to share with the world.

After cancelling last year’s events, the Tribeca Film Festival will be fully digital from June 9 to June 20. You can find more on Roadrunner’s showing, other film entries, and Festival events here.
