Cyrus opened the episode with a Mother’s Day tribute by performing godmother Dolly Parton’s song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” During the singer’s rendition, cast members introduced their mothers, clearly showing where they got their humor. All the cast and their mothers came together at the end of the performance, including Miley’s mother, Tish Cyrus.

After the touching tribute, Cyrus followed up with “Plastic Hearts,” an energetic single that blends pop and rock into a fun, upbeat tune. The SNL guest then slowed things down by performing “Without You” with The Kid LAROI. Cyrus and The Kid LAROI released the song on April 30, making this the first live performance since its initial release. LAROI, 17, has been picking up traction with his recent releases. In fact, as of May 10, “Without You” made it into the Billboard Top 10, according to Billboard

Aside from performing new music, the former Disney actress put her acting skills to good use in a skit with fan-favorite Pete Davidson and host Elon Musk. Davidson played Chad, a reoccurring character on SNL known to be clueless, while Cyrus was his sort-of love interest. Chad had the important mission of saving Elon Musk’s Space X Mars habitat, and the whole situation was nothing short of hilarious.

After taking the stage three times in one night and appearing in the famous Chad skit, it is clear Cyrus is no stranger to SNL. The pop star made her first appearance on the late-night comedy show in 2011, and she hasn’t looked back since. She’s done it all—hosting, performing, or being impersonated by the SNL cast.

With Miley’s track record, let us hope she will return to our screens soon with more show-stopping performances. After all, her iconic covers and hosting gigs leave fans talking for days.
