Halsey Declared Songwriter of the Year at BMI Pop Awards
At the 69th annual BMI Pop Awards, international star Halsey received the title: Songwriter of the Year. This comes to no surprise, as Halsey has written four of the most-performed songs this last year.
Between her top hits “Nightmare,” “Graveyard,” “Be Kind,” and “You Should Be Sad,” it is clear as to why she would be awarded as Songwriter of the year. With such a label, Halsey becomes a representative of some of the best musical creators in the world. “Music is today’s greatest communicator uniting us, uplifting us, and shaping our most intimate and defining memories,” Barbara Cane, the vice president of BMI, mentions when discussing this honor.
Fans are venturing to Twitter to share their support and appreciation for the two-time GRAMMY-nominated artist.

Firstly, the 26-year-old released the enlightening single “Nightmare,” leading up to her album “Manic,” in January of 2020. “Manic” also held the star’s other BMI-worthy tracks “Graveyard” and “You Should Be Sad,” allowing the record to debut at number two on the Billboard 200. Down the road, Halsey shared the Marshmello-collaborated, EDM-style “Be Kind.” With such a diverse group of music year-round, Halsey’s ‘Songwriter of the Year’ title is well deserved.
These days, Halsey continues to make record hits, all while waiting patiently to welcome their first child into the world. Make sure to check out Halsey’s BMI Pop Awards acceptance speech.
