Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Amazing Initiative to Raise Money for COVID Vaccines
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle started fundraising for COVID-19 vaccines for their son Archie’s second birthday.
The fundraising money is donated to help the COVID-19 vaccine and is in honor of Archie’s birthday. The couple has raised over $1.88 million in the past six days. With that, they aim to help the world’s most vulnerable people to have the opportunity of getting the vaccine.
“We have been deeply touched over the past two years to feel the warmth and support for our family in honor of Archie’s birthday,” Duke and Duchess of Sussex wrote in their statement when announcing the fundraising. “This year, our world continues to be on the path to recovery from COVID-19. Yet too many families are still struggling with the impact of this pandemic.”

Partnering with Mastercard Impact Fund, Seadream Family Foundation, and a public charity, the donations are dollar for dollar. This means that every $1 donation will turn into a $4 donation.
Also, Mastercard and Citi have donated an additional amount to the total fund raised by the couple.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Princess Meghan continue to live a life of service, drowning out the noise and giving back to others despite their own personal trials. #Archies2ndBirthday #HarryAndMeghan #vaccines #ServiceIsUniversal https://t.co/9zwy6wkYaq

As Prince Harry and Meghan said, “We will not be able to truly recover until everyone, everywhere, has equal access to the vaccine. And with that intention, we are inviting you to contribute whatever you can.”
The couple has been very active in the efforts to make the vaccine more accessible. They were campaign chairs of Global Citizen’s VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World that advocates for vaccine equity. Also, they called out pharmaceutical companies to bring the vaccine to third countries.
Each COVID-19 vaccine costs $5. Therefore, for each $5 donated, a vaccine is produced.
The goal is to allow low-income countries to get the vaccine. In the letter, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated, “As of today, around 80 percent of the nearly one billion COVID-19 vaccine shots that have been given were administered in wealthier countries.”
