Ally Brooke is getting candid about her time on Dancing With the Stars and how her feelings were similar to her time on X-Factor. On the most recent episode of her podcast, The Ally Brooke Show, she invited former pro partner Sasha Farber, and Brooke revealed the one moment that left her devastated.

Brooke competed in season 28 against stars like Hannah Brown, Kel Mitchell, Kate Flannery, and James Van Der Beek. During the week of the semi-finals, Van Der Beek’s wife suffered a miscarriage, thus a less than stellar score for Van Der Beek and his partner, Farber’s wife, Emma Slater.

Brooke and Van Der Beek found themselves in the bottom two at the end of the night, and one would be cut from the final week. Despite the fact that Van Der Beek was the fan favorite and had higher scores throughout the season, the judges chose to save Ally Brooke.

Pro dancer Sasha Farber recalls Brooke’s reaction to the results where she pleaded with former host Tom Bergeron to give her spot to Van Der Beek. Farber went on to say that the ballroom competition show builds such strong bonds, which is why both couples were in tears after the announcement.

Brooke revealed that she did not want to continue the competition and braced herself for the hate that was soon to come. Brooke said, “I just remember after the show I wanted to quit. I want to give this to James. I don’t want to be here. I was done. It was such an emotional punching bag for me, and then on top of that, I got a lot of hate because the judges saved me,”

Brooke was pegged as the “judges’ favorite” during her run on the competition as she was saved from elimination three times throughout the season. She knew that being saved over the fan-favorite would strike up a whirlwind of hurtful comments.

This hate would lead to a resurgence of feelings and emotions that Brooke felt at the start of her career. Brooke discusses how the hate brought her back to her X-Factor audition that she said got a lot of hate after it aired. Along with the hate she received for her dancing while in Fifth Harmony, it all took a mental toll on her, and she struggled to keep her head high for the finale.

Before the finale, Van Der Beek gave Brooke one last piece of advice as he told her, “Don’t be afraid to shine.” Fans and critics alike agree that Brooke took that advice to heart when she gave two final exceptional performances.

Ally Brooke came in fourth place and performed numerous performances for 2020 Dancing With the Stars Live! Tour.
