Tiffany Haddish will star as Olympian Florence Griffith Joyner, known as Flo-Jo, in an upcoming biopic.

Joyner was an American track and field athlete and a three-time Olympic Gold winner. She was known as the fastest woman of all time, breaking records in 1998 for the 100m and 200m dash. People recognized the track star for her stylish running suits and charming personality. Joyner passed away in 1998, at the age of 38, from an epileptic seizure.

Now, Girls Trip actress Tiffany Haddish is making sure Joyner’s story gets told. According to Variety, Haddish will produce the film along with other producers. A press release announced that “Joyner was one of Haddish’s heroes growing up.”

A tweet from the actress explained how hard she is looking forward to honor Joyner’s legacy.

Al Joyner, Flo-Jo’s former coach and husband, will serve as a producer and creative consultant for the biopic and has begun training Haddish for her new role. “Working with Tiffany has been a great pleasure – she is incredibly dedicated, focused, and committed to portraying the spirit of Florence accurately, whose legacy of making a difference in the world will live on for generations to come. I hope that this film touches all who see it and inspires people to BE the change the world so desperately needs right now,” Joyner stated, according to Deadline.

The era of women trailblazers is emerging. By training for the new role, Haddish is making sure inspirational stories are shared. Currently, there is no official report of a release date for the biopic. However, Tiffany Haddish will continue her duties as host of Kids Say the Darndest Things, airing on CBS.
