After four long years of waiting, Ed Sheeran finally announces another solo single to drop that he describes as “really different” from anything he’s done before. Although he released his last album No.6 Collaborations Project back in 2019, and a single ‘Afterglow’ in 2020, he is now ready to drop another solo any day now.

Sheeran’s previous solo record “Happier” from 2018 was a huge success reaching the top 30 on Billboard, but the famous musician decides to head into a different direction for his next release. Sheeran states, “I’m using a band for the first time and it feels like the next stage,” hinting about the major adjustments we plan to see from him.

In the past, he has both performed and created his music using the “pedal loop” method, which is when he taps his foot on a device that allows him to immediately record and playback his sounds. By doing this Sheeran can layer his vocals and instruments while performing, ultimately creating a band with just himself. So, him eliminating this unique strategy and singing with a band instead will be a drastic change for both him and his music.

As excited fans are for his return, they’re also devastated as to why his break was needed in the first place. Sheeran decided last year it was best for him to limit social media and his music in order to “go out and see more of the world,” and control the amounts of hate consumed online. Thankfully, this year he’s addressed his return and recently posted “The moment you realize your first solo single in 4 years is coming out in a few weeks,” in hopes to increase fan’s excitement for the new song.

After Sheeran’s exciting announcement fans are eagerly waiting for the solo single to finally drop, hoping this could be his 13 number one hit on the BBC Newsround.
