Kamala Harris Makes History at the DC Pride Parade
Vice President Kamala Harris made history as the first sitting vice president to march at a pride event. She attended the Capital Pride Parade on June 12 with her husband, Doug Emhoff.
Per Popsugar, Kamala Harris marched in a white t-shirt with the words “Love is love” on it and a bright pink blazer. Husband Doug Emhoff wore a t-shirt with the words “Love first” written on it multiple times in different colors. Vice President Harris posted pictures of the parade on Twitter, showing America’s second couple walking together as well as an entire street filled with marchers.

The Second Gentleman posted a picture smiling and marching with his wife on Instagram.
Harris shouted “Happy Pride!” to the crowd. She also gave a speech about the importance of passing the Equality Act, which would ban school and workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
On June 13, Vice President Harris made a statement on Instagram celebrating Pride Month and achieving marriage equality in California eight years ago. She said, “Thanks to generations of LGBTQ Americans and leaders and their allies, over the years, our nation has made incredible progress. Marriage equality is now the law of the entire land.” However, she reminded her supporters that “There is still work to be done to achieve full equality. The work of expanding protections in housing, employment, and education. The work to expand protections for transgender Americans. I want you to know we see you. We hear you, and the President and I will not rest until everyone has equal protection under the law.”
Pride supporters commended Harris on Twitter.
I love that Vice President Kamala Harris is attending a #PRIDE parade in DC right now.
