Apple Released a New Trailer for Award-Winning Film ‘CODA’
On June 24, Apple Original Films released a trailer for the award-winning film CODA, which stands for child of deaf adults. Directed by Siân Heder, the movie is about a young girl named Ruby, who navigates life as an interpreter for her parents.

In the trailer, Mr. V, Ruby’s choirmaster, directly asks her, “You’re the girl with the deaf family?” He continues, “And you sing? Interesting.” Scenes switch back and forth between Ruby singing beautifully on a stage to scenes of her helping out her family with the task of fishing. After this, the trailer hints at Ruby moving towards a singing career. Dramatically building up with emotional music, the trailer shows 17-year-old Ruby signing to her parents, “I can’t stay with you for the rest of my life.”
It becomes clear that the film’s main problem is the struggle between two completely different aspects of Ruby’s life when she explains, “I’ve never done anything without my family before.” The trailer ends with a moving scene of Ruby and her family embracing in a group hug.
In a press release, Apple gave additional insight into how Ruby discovered her passion for singing after joining her school choir. Briefly in the trailer, Ruby is seen with a love interest, and Apple clarified the character to be Miles, her duet partner.
