Lily Collins Set to Star in New Live-Action Polly Pocket Film Based on 2000s Toy
As a result of Polly’s impact on pop culture, Girls creator and actress Lena Dunham is set to direct a live-action film about the children’s toy, starring Lily Collins as Polly Pocket herself.
The movie will follow the story of a young girl forming a friendship with a pocket-sized woman, the inverse of the 2000s film Life-Size starring Tyra Banks.
The Emily in Paris actress has expressed her joy towards being part of this project, describing it as an opportunity to “reintroduce Polly… in a fun and modern way.”
As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pockets, it’s a real dream come true to announce this project! I am partnering with the most inspiring team to reintroduce Polly to the world in a fun, modern way. Truly so excited to be coming on as both a producer and Polly herself!… https://t.co/UGuMrKjhEa

“Polly Pocket was responsible for countless hours of childhood escapism for me – Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it’s pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideas now as a director collaborating with the brilliant Lily Collins, Robbie Brenner, Mattel, and MGM,” said Dunham to Variety.

“I’m so thrilled to bring to bear both my love of this historic property and also my deep-seated belief that young women need smart playful films that speak to them without condescension.”
Mattel has several other projects lined up, including adaptations of American Girl, Barney, Barbie, and Hot Wheels Toys. Ladybird director Greta Gerwig has the live-action film for Barbie in the works, with Oscar-nominated Margot Robbie set to star and produce.
