New Trailer and Key Art Released for Naomi Osaka’s Netflix Documentary
On July 6, Netflix released a brand new trailer and powerful key art for Naomi Osaka’s upcoming documentary. In mid-July, fans of Osaka can expect a three-part documentary series on Netflix about the pressures of being a famous tennis player.
Beginning with a shot of Osaka focusing on tennis, the trailer shows the 23-year-old tennis player stating, “No one really knows all of the sacrifices you make.” In the next scene, the trailer conveys the message that Osaka experiences a great amount of pressure that comes with the attention she receives. From her parents, sponsors, fans, and social media followers, Osaka has to take into consideration many different opinions based on her career.

The trailer continues by showing different clips of Osaka as a child swinging tennis racquets. Giving insight into her family history, Osaka described the hardships of her mother working overtime, which resulted in nights sleeping in a car. Alongside this, the tennis player described her family history and how her ancestors spent 40 nights on a ship. After explaining the impactful stories, Osaka stated, “I use that as strength.” The trailer ends with Osaka’s question, “What am I if I’m not a good tennis player?”
According to IndieWire, Garrett Bradley, the director of the documentary, stated, “The series is about Naomi’s journey, within a snapshot of her life, but it’s also about life’s purpose, about personal worth, about the courage that it takes to allow one’s personal values to inform their work and vice versa.”

In addition to the trailer, Netflix released inspiring key art for the documentary. At the top, the key art shows Osaka lying on a tennis court with her eyes closed. In big yellow letters, the tennis player’s full name is written across the image with text underneath that reads “Playing By Her Own Rules.”
In the future, fans can look forward to the release of Osaka’s Netflix documentary on July 16.
