On July 14, Meghan Markle was announced to be creating and executive producing a kid’s animated series called Pearl. The series will be created through Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s production company Archewell Productions’ partnership with Netflix.

According to Deadline, Meghan Markle briefly explained the plot and main character of the series named Pearl. Inspired by many women throughout history, Pearl is a 12-year-old girl who will encounter difficulties in her life and attempt to overcome them in the animated series.

Additionally, Megan Casey, Netflix’s Director of Original Animation, gave further insight into Pearl’s journey. Casey stated, “An exciting tale that weaves together fantasy and history, Pearl focuses on a young girl who learns to step into her own power when she embarks on a heroic adventure and meets important women from history along the way.”

In a statement, the Duchess of Sussex expressed her excitement for the upcoming series that will celebrate “extraordinary women throughout history.” Markle mentioned the “powerhouse” Netflix and the “incredible” producers who will be a part of the creation process for the animation. Along with the Duchess, David Furnish, Carolyn Soper, Liz Garbus, and Dan Cogan are set to executive produce.

Last year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry created their very own production company called Archewell Productions. Furthermore, the two co-founders signed a deal to make Netflix the base platform for their content, including scripted series, docu-series, documentaries, features, and children’s programming.

In the future, look out for the animated series Pearl, as well as an upcoming docuseries titled Heart of Invictus.
