Hulu announces casting for the upcoming limited comedy, How I Met Your Father, which started production on August 11. Though the show has no connection to How I Met Your Mother, original series director Pam Fryman will fulfill the same role.

Disney icon and star of Younger Hilary Duff will star as Sophie in the 10-episode series. Much like the original, the story centers around Sophie telling her son how she met his father.

This takes place in the future, as the series is set in New York City in 2021. All the while, she and her group of friends explore their identities, purpose in life, and dating in the digital age.

“As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that [HIMYM creators] Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby,” Duff told Deadline back in April.

Hollywood Reporter shares that Duff is joined by a star-studded cast including Francia Raisa, Chris Howell, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, and Suraj Sharma. Much like any group of young adults making their way through New York living, each actor brings something new to the group of on-screen friends.

Raisa, who also co-stars on Grown-ish, will play aspiring stylist Valentina. A press release describes her as “impulsive and adventurous” and is there to cheer roommate Sophie up when she’s feeling down. A bit of a flirt, Valentina returns from London in the premiere episode with aspiring model Charlie (Ainsley).

After falling in love with Valentina at London Fashion Week, Charlie follows her back to New York. He may be a good guy but has lived in a “rich bubble” throughout his life, being a son of conservative aristocrats.

Lowell (Veronica Mars) plays Jesse, an Uber driver with dreams of being a musician. He lives with his best friend Sid (Sharma) and is cynical about love and life. Jesse is joined in New York by his adopted sister Ellen (Tran).

Separating from her wife and leaving a small farm town, Ellen feels out of place in New York City. She would rather be on an “organic lettuce farm.”

Original HIMYM series creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays are excited about the new project.

“Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story: It’s the story of how two writers got lucky enough to make their dream TV show for nine seasons,” the creators shared with Deadline. “And now get to pass the torch to an inspired new creative team with their own incredible story to tell, the story of How I Met Your Father.
