Phoebe Bridgers Shares Cover of Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’
Phoebe Bridgers has shared her take on Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” for the highly anticipated The Metallica Blacklist. Bridgers joins several artists from Miley Cyrus to St. Vincent among others on the lengthy album.
News of Bridgers’ cover was shared with Zane Lowe, who took to social media to reveal that the “Punisher” singer will appear on his show on Apple Music to discuss covering the notorious rock song. In one part of the interview, Bridgers tells Lowe, “It was just so fun to take a part in it. I feel like my version almost sounds baroque. Literally, James Hetfield does all sorts of weird octave jumps and stuff that I can’t do, and I almost have a Billie Eilish approach of right by the microphone, performing it the opposite of them, which was really fun to lean into.”
Bridgers’ mention of Billie Eilish makes a lot of sense, as her take on “Nothing Else Matters” sounds incredibly haunting. Her version is backed by twinkling piano and string sounds, building up suspense for what is to come as one continues listening.

Bridgers’ take on “Nothing Else Matters” has also been covered by Miley Cyrus on The Metallica Blacklist. Cyrus delivers the classic rock song fans of Metallica know and love, but Bridgers’ rendition invites listeners to a much more different experience. Her version has an aching yet elegant quality to it, a rare talent seen in artists.
