Batman’s Sidekick Comes Out As Bisexual
Batman’s sidekick, Robin, comes out as bisexual. Though there have been many Robins throughout the series, the fourth Robin, Tim Blake, is the one who came out of the closet.
For decades, DC comics vehemently denied these claims. It was in volume 6 of Batman: Urban Legends that Drake’s sexuality is revealed. Towards the end, Drake agreed to go on a date with longtime friend, Bernard Dowd. In the previous volume, the two are having dinner together which gets interrupted by villain Chao Monster. He knocks out Drake and kidnaps Bernard. During part three of volume 6 does Bernard says he wishes he and Drake finished their date. Later in the comic, Bernard asks Drake out on a date.
“Tim Drake… do you want to go on a date with me?” Bernard asks Drake.
“Yeah… Yeah, I think I want that,” Drake replies.

In the past, Drake has expressed romantic feelings towards Stephanie Brown, aka Spoiler, the daughter of Bat villain Cluemaster. Writer Meghan Fitzmartin explained Drake’s sexuality in an interview.
“I wanted to pay tribute to the fact that sexuality is a journey. To be clear, his feelings for Stephanie have been/are 100 percent real, as are his feelings for Bernard. However, Tim is still figuring himself out. I don’t think he has the language for it all … yet.”
Robin is among many superheroes who’ve come out as LGBTQ. This year, Aaron Fischer (the new Captain America) came out as gay. Kate Kane (Batwoman), Bobby Drake (Iceman), Loki, Jean-Paul Beaubier (Northstar), Billy Kaplan (Wiccan), Hulkling, Midnighter, Pamela Isley (Poison Ivy), Harley Quinn, and Apollo are just to name a few.
To see what’s in store for Drake and Bernard, fans can order Batman: Urban Legends on Amazon and Target’s website. DC movies can be streamed on HBO Max.
