Elton John Announces New Surprise Album ‘The Lockdown Sessions’
Sir Elton John has announced an exciting new project: The Lockdown Sessions, his pandemic album backed by A-list musicians. The record features Brandi Carlile, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Lil Nas X, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Rina Sawayama, Jimmie Allen, Eddie Vedder, Charlie Puth, and many others.
After teasing his big announcement on his Instagram stories, John would elaborate in both a video and post about the breakdown of such an iconic line-up. He starts by revealing that making a whole record was the last thing on his mind during the pandemic, but after working on so many diverse projects, he knew he had something truly special. John calls this moment “full circle,” as he felt like a session musician again for the first time since his career began in the late sixties. He ends the caption by thanking all of his collaborators.
Stevie Nicks, The Reigning Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, appears on the track “Stolen Cars.” Fans know this is a big deal, considering Nicks has made history as the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice for her work with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist, among other accolades. She calls this collaboration “one of the top 3 things I’ve ever done.”
Brandi Carlile, who cites Elton John as her hero, appears on the track “Simple Things.” Carlile is loud and proud to be on The Lockdown Sessions, an album she calls “eccentric” and “vibrant.” She finishes off the touching repost calling John an “angel genius.”
Rina Sawayama, who is a force to be reckoned with in the pop industry, details her excitement at getting to rework “Chosen Family” again. The two have shared this song already, but surely the duo has created another magical rendition together.
Elton John’s The Lockdown Sessions will surely be yet another memorable album in his long discography. The record features collaborations from all genres of music and contains various age ranges. Elton John continues to amaze us with his work ethic. The Lockdown Sessions will be available on October 22. Fans can pre-order the album here.
