Fans better keep an eye out; Freeform is preparing to stir up a whole lot of Good Trouble in 2022. The news confirming a Season 4 for The Fosters spin-off comes as the show wrapped up its third season on Wednesday, September 8. The show follows the residents of The Coterie in Downtown Los Angeles as they balance love, friendship, and their respective careers while standing up for what they believe in. The series stars Maia Mitchel, Cierra Ramirez, Sherry Cola, Tommy Martinez, Zuri Adele, Emma Hunton, Josh Pence, and Beau Mirchoff, all featured in the new poster for the upcoming season.
The show is one of the few scripted originals currently airing on Freeform, and Season 3 served as the series most-watched season to date on Hulu. The series also ranks as one of the year’s Top 10 Primetime cable drama series among Women 18-34, with Season 3 being the show’s longest season to date.
No official release date has been announced yet, though it is confirmed to air sometime in 2022.

Season 3 ended off on various cliffhangers, already hinting at the drama to come in Season 4, yet showrunner Joanna Johnson teased further as she opened up to TVLine. While explaining that the next season will likely tie up loose ends from the previous finale, such as Gael and Isabella’s pregnancy, Malika’s transfer to a job in the system, and Mariana and the Fight Club girls “trying to launch their app [after] their IP has been stolen,” Johnson reveals that Season 4 “might have some new characters” as well.
Johnson continued, letting audiences know that we’re “going to see more of everything that [she hopes] that everyone loves about the show and more of the community.” With the upcoming season, the show strives to do what it does best, provide a sense of “comfort that we all find in community because the world is so hard.”
Good Trouble premiered in January 2019 and quickly earned a pickup for Season 2 within a month of airing. Season 3 was also ordered in January 2020, yet the return was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and pushed to February, almost a year after the second-season finale debuted. Despite the delays with Season 3, expectations are high for the highly-anticipated Season 4 to come in 2022.
