Annie Clark, known to fans at St. Vincent, has had an extremely productive 2021. St. Vincent’s new era began circulating all over the Internet in late February, where she remained mum, tweeting out, “Nothing to see here.”

By March 1, a new era was upon us, where the singer shared a minute-long trailer that looked to be highly reminiscent of a 1970s thriller. St. Vincent is genuinely a seventies starlet as she rocks the blonde bob hair and long trench coat. The suspense builds as she runs around an abandoned apartment building searching for the telephone that keeps on ringing.

The retro trailer segues into St. Vincent’s first single: “Pay Your Way In Pain.” If fans chose to call the hotline (“CALL NOW! 1-833-77-DADDY”), they would be introduced to a voice that reveals, “She’s back, in a new role like you’ve never seen her before. Featuring the new single “Pay Your Way In Pain.” “Nobody expected it, nobody believed it, and nobody could stop it.”

After her first single, St. Vincent continued to release singles accompanied by jaw-dropping music videos. She also appeared on The Tonight Show, Starring Jimmy Fallon. In addition to being on a late-night show, St. Vincent also hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live back in April.

After the success of Daddy’s Home in May, St. Vincent shared her contribution to The Metallica Blacklist, revealing her smashing cover of “Sad But True” in late June.

As the singer is currently on tour promoting Daddy’s Home, the singer has also shared her first feature film, The Nowhere Inn, a mockumentary about her life as an artist. The singer co-wrote the film with friend Carrie Brownstein, a fellow musician herself. Much of the soundtrack is scored. Out of the 19 tracks, St. Vincent contributes vocals to “The Nowhere Inn,” “Palm Desert,” and “Waiting On A Wave.”

The Nowhere Inn is out today, September 17, in select theaters and on-demand services. Fans can watch the trailer to the mockumentary above. In the meantime, fans can stream St. Vincent’s incredible discography on Spotify.
