The First Trailer to ‘Licorice Pizza’ Is Here
Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, Licorice Pizza, has dropped its first trailer. Licorice Pizza boasts a stacked cast of stars such as Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn, Maya Rudolph, Benny Safdie, and Tom Waits.
Anderson’s Licorice Pizza radiates seventies nostalgia, beginning with David Bowie’s 1971 signature hit song “Life on Mars?” serving as the trailer’s soundtrack. He continues with the seventies aesthetic as the characters are living it up in California, specifically the San Fernando Valley in the year 1973.

Licorice Pizza follows the coming-of-age story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine, who are portraying young lovers in the film. Kane is played by Alana Haim, a musician from the Grammy-nominated sister trio, Haim. She is a frequent collaborator of Anderson’s, as he has directed several of Haim’s music videos such as “Night So Long,” “Little of Your Love,” “Right Now,” “Now I’m In It,” “Summer Girl,” and “The Steps.”

The character of Gary Valentine will be played by Cooper Hoffman, the son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Anderson worked with Cooper’s father in a number of films, beginning with Anderson’s debut Hard Eight (1996). A string of subsequent films followed after that such as Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), and The Master (2012). Upon the news of Cooper collaborating with Anderson, it is safe to say that fans are emotional.
I’m starting to feel bittersweet in that PTA’s Licorice Pizza not only marks the feature film debuts of both Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman but that again, Cooper is carrying his father’s (Philip Seymour Hoffman, RIP always!) legacy 😢 pic.twitter.com/1vAYmIgvTY

Anderson has also cast Bradley Cooper as Jon Peters. In the trailer, Cooper’s character is seen having a heated conversation with Valentine on how to pronounce Barbra Streisand’s name correctly. Peters is a real-life figure who had produced A Star Is Born in 1976, as well as Cooper’s remake in 2018.
Hands down my favorite shot of the #LicoricePizza trailer. Bradley Cooper gives off chaotic vibes as Jon Peters 😂🔥 pic.twitter.com/tqrixUdqBZ
