Creators of ‘The Other Two’ Develop New Queer Dark Comedy

Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, the creative duo behind The Other Two, stick with HBO to develop a new psychological comedy about a closeted gay teen. The untitled half-hour dark comedy is set in the year 2000, following a boy who copes with the denial of his sexuality by dissociating and imagining he’s a famous, straight actor merely playing the role of a queer man. However, all of this goes down the drain when he meets someone who changes his entire way of thinking.

The potential series will be executively produced by Naomi and Adam Scott for their Gettin’ Rad Productions banner. News of the new project was revealed following the second-season finale of Kelly and Schneider’s HBO hit The Other Two, which premiered on September 23.

Along with this announcement came the confirmation that the Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke-led series has been renewed for a Season 3. The second season follows pop star Chase Dreams as he officially retires at the age of fourteen.

Now, Brooke and Carey (portrayed by Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke) struggle to compete with another famous family member: their 53-year-old mother, Pat, and her newly popular daytime talk show. It’s another bout of them undergoing the humiliation of ending up as “the other two” once again and making it their mission to change that.

The show currently has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “certified fresh,” and this isn’t the only thing worth boasting about for the writers. Prior to bringing The Other Two to HBO, Kelly and Schneider were acclaimed for being the youngest co-head writers in Saturday Night Live history. They led the SNL team all the way to the Emmy Awards, receiving “Outstanding Variety Series” and the “Peabody for Political Satire” for the show’s 42nd season.

With all the rave reviews The Other Two has been receiving, it’s not surprising fans are excited to see what Kelly and Schneider have in store for their upcoming project. In the meantime, check out the preview for The Other Two‘s Season 2 above.
