Following the series finale of Game of Thrones over two years ago, HBO has officially released the teaser for the highly anticipated prequel, House of the Dragon. The trailer was released before the streaming service’s European launch set for October 26, no doubt gathering hype from national and international audiences alike.

The upcoming series is based on George R. R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood,” set 200 years before the “A Song of Ice and Fire” chronicles, which were the basis for Game of Thrones. This story will focus more on the history of the dragon-riding Targaryen family, exploring the story of their dynasty and the civil war that plagues the House’s history.

True to its title as a teaser, the clip mostly consists of close-up shots of the ensemble cast with a remixed version of the original theme song. Despite the lack of action scenes, the teaser captures the viewers’ attention and draws them in with brand new personalities to focus on.

Daemon Targaryen (played by Matt Smith) is described as “a peerless warrior and a dragonrider,” who “possess the true blood of a dragon.” In the teaser, we get a glimpse of his persona through a dramatic voiceover, coolly stating that “dreams didn’t make us kings, dragons did.”

Through the footage, we get to see Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower.

Although many details have yet to be revealed, the first season is confirmed to have 10 episodes and will air on HBO and HBO Max in 2022. Check out the official teaser for House of the Dragon below.
