Big Thief, the indie band fronted by Adrienne Lenker, has shared their new song, “Change.” As we now find ourselves in autumn, “Change” is the perfect track to listen to this fall season.

“Change” marks the band’s fourth new song released since August. On August 10, they shared the tracks “Little Things” and “Sparrow.” The cover art features a pencil sketch of animals gathered around a campfire playing music.

On September 7, the band shared “Certainty,” a soothing track with a unique story. “Certainty” had been recorded using a cigarette lighter during a power outage. Buck Meek, one of the members, writes on Instagram about the ordeal. He begins by telling fans that a big summer storm hit, leaving them powerless at Sam Evian’s Flying Cloud Recordings studio located in Upstate New York. He elaborates, “On the third day of the power outage, I found Adrienne Lenker on the porch writing a new song, so I sat with her and we finished it together, with the rain falling from the gutters splashing over our guitars.”

He adds that James Krivchenia and Sam had seen them writing, forcing them to act quickly. James and Sam set up a four-track tape machine in the kitchen, which had been powered by the F250 cigarette lighter out in the yard. Lastly, the drums were set up in the sink, with Max plugging in his bass into a bluetooth speaker set on top of the stove. Despite the curveballs Mother Nature threw their way, the end result is quite impressive.

On October 6, Big Thief shared “Change,” which evokes their strongest campfire-friendly sound yet. The acoustic guitar coupled with Lenker’s soothing voice feels like a nice, warm hug for fans.

Big Thief is leaving fans all warm and cozy this fall season. Be sure to stream “Change” on all major music platforms. In addition to this news, the band has also revealed a Spring 2022 tour. Tickets to see Big Thief can be found on their website.
