Ariana Grande was quick on her feet when performing the song “Just Look Up” with Kid Cudi. The “Positions” singer, 28, improvised the lyrics to the song, according to the director of the movie with the same title, Adam McKay.

“Ariana Grande most certainly did improvise. In fact, her best improv was when she sang the song for the first time,” the director said. “She’s the one who added all that stuff about ‘We’re all going to die’ and ‘Turn off that sh*tbox news.’ That was her riffing on the first scratch track of the melody line. And the second I heard it, I was like, ‘That’s going in the movie.'”

McKay even complimented the singer, starting her performance as one of his favorite parts from the movie.

"And that might be one of my favorite moments in the movie where you have pretty much the biggest popstar in the world singing beautifully, 'We're all going to die.' Every time I see it, it just has this hilarious cognitive dissonance with it. So Ariana Grande can definitely improvise."

Don’t Look Up follows an astronomy grad student Kate Diblasky (Jennifer Lawrence), and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), discover a huge comet headed towards Earth. The duo set out to change people’s minds by going on a media tour with the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan).

With the comet expected to crash into Earth in less than six months, this begs the question: will Diblasky and Mindy convince people to care? The movie can be streamed on Netflix. Fans can check out  Ariana Grande’s performance of the song “Just Look Up” below.
