The message was, “I know that I said this before, but I do want to reiterate to everyone that Euphoria is for mature audiences. This season, maybe even more so than the last, is deeply emotional and deals with subject matter that can be triggering and difficult to watch. Please only watch it if you feel comfortable. Take care of yourself, and know that either way, you are still loved, and I can still feel your support. All my love, Daya.”
After its initial debut, Euphoria faced criticism regarding its themes centered around sexuality and substance abuse.
Euphoria was still welcomed with open arms towards the intended teen and young adult audience despite the backlash.
In an interview with Euphoria’s director and creator, Sam Levinson, he says, “I was just trying to capture that kind of heightened sense of emotion when you’re young and how relationships feel. Relationships have such a pull, and people have such a pull, and the world feels like it’s just constantly sort of bearing down on you and that anxiety and those sort of mood swings that I think are inherent to being young…trying to create this character that just is constantly trying to navigate this world of just heighten emotion and trying to either enhance the joy or kind of dampen the sadness or darkness around it.”
