Netflix has officially cast the character roles for Nikolai, Tolya, Tamar, and Wylan for season 2 of their hit book-to-screen adaptation of Shadow and Bone.

The first season of the fantasy series came out in 2021 on April 23 and was released as an eight-episode series. The series is a Netflix adaptation of the Shadow and Bone Trilogy and Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo, and it switches between the storylines of the two series. One of the storylines follows a young mapmaker who has just discovered she has powers and is suddenly pushed into the grand, magical world of the Grisha, and the other involves a crime group who call themselves The Crows. The show also features well-loved tropes including The Chosen One trope. Shadow and Bone was met with enthusiasm from fans of Grishaverse books and new fans who loved the show. Netflix announced on Thursday that they had cast new characters for the next season, characters that fans of the books had been dying to see since the show was first announced.

Netflix made this announcement with the help of the cast from season 1. Actors including Ben Barnes, Jessie Mei Li, Freddy Carter, Archie Renaux, Sujaya Dasgupta, and Amita Suman appeared on an Instagram video to announce the new cast. This video welcomed Anna Leong Brophy as Tamar Kir-Battar, Patrick Gibson as Nikolai Landstov, Lewis Tan as Tolya Yul-Battar, and Jack Wolfe as Wylan Hendriks to the cast of Shadow and Bone. They also announced in the video that the show was back in Budapest for the production of season two.
