Geffri Maya playing Simone Hicks was shown in several episodes of All American, but Episode 17 of Season 3 stands out as it foreshadowed the new series. The episode showed potential cast members such as star baseball athlete Damon played by Peyton Alex Smith. The full cast includes Cory Hardrict, Kelly Jenerette, Camille Hyde, and Netta Walker. The All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll will be writing an executive producer for the new spin-off.

“The LA version of Black culture isn’t necessarily the same as New York, which is not the same as the South, which is not the same as the Midwest. When I started looking at the best way to speak to that diversity that exists within our Blackness, it’s on a campus-like an HBCU campus,” Nkechi Okoro Carroll told Entertainment Weekly in regards to the setting decision.

The official season one trailer was released on December 13th, and it had many eager to see what’s to come.

There are few shows regarding the lives of collegiate students, fewer regarding Black collegiate students, and even fewer regarding Black Collegiate students at HBCUs. With little to no representation, this show will help to bring light to the cherished community of historically Black universities.

All American fans also express their excitement on Twitter as they count down to the premiere.

The show will be different from other college shows as it will enhance realism while paying homage to many Black waymakers. Naomi Osaka, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams will be three of the many Black inspirations discussed in the show.
