Leighton Meester Joins How I Met Your Father Cast
The highly anticipated series, How I Met Your Father, made its debut on Hulu on January 18. While the wait has felt like forever, eagle-eyed fans noticed another prominent face grace their television screens: Leighton Meester.
Fans of HIMYF were in for a treat when Gossip Girl alum Leighton Meester made an appearance on the comedy series. Meester plays Meredith, the ex-girlfriend of Jesse (Christopher Lowell). Her character gets proposed to by Lowell at a coffee house gig, where he gets turned down. As if this moment is not embarrassing enough, Jesse falls backstage and the video gets posted on YouTube, instantly becoming a viral hit.

Although Meester has a brief cameo, fans can rest assured knowing that they have not seen the last of her. Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the creators of HIMYF, teased fans about Meester’s character. Aptaker reveals, “Just having Leighton Meester in that one little viral video certainly seems like a waste of Leighton Meester. I think that it is reasonable to expect that she’ll be returning at some point.”
Chris Lowell, who plays the famous ex to Meester’s Meredith, gushed about the actress in an interview with TheWrap. Lowell states, “She definitely has a wonderful role on the show. I don’t know how much we’re allowed to talk about. I can say that all of us got excited to have her around and working with her was an absolute joy. She’s awesome.”

Hilary Duff, who plays the hopeless romantic, Sophie, in the series, also spoke about Meester’s role, calling it a “full-circle moment.” She says, “We worked together as teens and now we’re getting to work together in our adulthood and it’s lovely. She’s a mother and a great person. And it’s kind of heart-wrenching because when you see Leighton and Chris together [as Meredith and Jesse] you’re like, ‘This was like a great couple.’ So she’s definitely probably going to ruin Sophie’s day.”
