On Jan. 26, Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner uploaded a teaser lyric video of her covering “Nobody Sees Me Like You Do.” The track initially appeared on Ono’s fifth studio album, Seasons of Glass, released in 1981.

The emotional record marked her first solo effort since the tragic murder of her husband, the late John Lennon. “Nobody Sees Me Like You Do” plays as a heartbreaking farewell to Lennon. The two artists shared a deep and strong love, built to weather any storm. Lennon, although one of the biggest musicians in the world, truly valued Ono as an artist and musician.

Zauner shared her thoughts about Ono in a podcast discussing the project Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono. She reveals, “She was the most—sort of—hated woman in music for a while—so unfairly—that I think, obviously, as an Asian woman, I sided with her, and saw her as a very deep and complex artist that was being unfairly judged by the world and how difficult that must have been. And it became very symbolic for me.”

Michelle Zauner had an incredible 2021, and she does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono is available to pre-order now. A portion of proceeds will go to WhyHunger, a non-profit organization that strives to end world hunger and poverty. Ono has supported the organization for decades. Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono will be released on Feb. 18.
