Doja Cat Releases New Cover of Hole’s ‘Celebrity Skin’

Doja Cat is back with new music. The “Need To Know” singer is the star of Taco Bell’s latest commercial that will air during Super Bowl LVI’s fourth quarter.

Doja Cat, the Grammy-nominated singer, has dipped her toes in the rap, pop, and R&B genres.

On Feb. 11, the singer shared her rendition of “Celebrity Skin,” an iconic song from the alternative rock band Hole fronted by Courtney Love. The song was the hit single off the band’s third studio album of the same name released in 1998.

The minute-long commercial titled “Grand Escape” tells an “epic story of liberation from conformity and shows Doja Cat alongside others who escape from a clown college in pursuit of discovering Live Más for themselves. It is a depiction of the exhilaration and comfort that comes from honoring and celebrating being different.”

Hole’s frontwoman Courtney Love helped rework the lyrics in the commercial.

Doja Cat shared her thoughts about the commercial in a statement, revealing, “It’s no secret I’m a major Taco Bell fan which has made my role with this campaign all the more fun. I’ve enjoyed every moment of this campaign, especially the ones where we get to break all the rules and look forward to continuing collaborating with the brand.”

The commercial only featured a small snippet of her rocking out to the classic song, which left fans eager to hear the full version.

Doja Cat would deliver, taking to social media to write that she definitely would not spend all day in the studio recording “Celebrity Skin” without fans being able to hear the full version.

And not only did fans get the full version, but they also got a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the commercial and cover.
