Hulu just announced that they are in the process of making a new original true-crime series, The Girl From Plainville.

Maleficent actress Elle Fanning will star as the main character Michelle Carter. The original series will be based on an Esquire article about a female charged with homicide because of the messages with her boyfriend, possibly leading to suicide.

According to Hulu Press, they shared, “The Girl From Plainville is inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter’s unprecedented ‘texting-suicide case. Based on the Esquire article of the same name by Jesse Barron, the limited series explores Carter’s relationship with Conrad Roy III and the events that led to his death and, later, her conviction of involuntary manslaughter.”

Hulu also confirmed the rest of the cast for the series and their characters in the true-crime series: Chloe Sevigny (Lynn Roy), Colton Ryan (Conrad ‘Coco’ Roy III), Cara Buono (Gail Carter), Kai Lennox (David Carter), and Norbert Leo Butz (Conrad ‘Co’ Roy II).

Alongside releasing the synopsis for the upcoming true-crime original series, Hulu also released a teaser for it. You can watch it below.

The true-crime original series is expected to have eight episodes and is set to be produced by Littleton Road and UCP (Universal Cable Productions). Long Shot’s Liz Hannah and Dr. Death’s Patrick Macmanus will be writing the series.

The Girl From Plainville will release on March 29 exclusively on the Hulu streaming service.
