New Series Lands at HBO, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty
The original series, Winning Time: The Rise of The Lakers Dynasty premiered on HBO yesterday. The new drama series is filled with truthful events about the 1980s Los Angeles basketball team, focusing on Dr. Jerry Buss, Magic Johnson, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Winning Time: The Rise of The Lakers Dynasty drew inspiration from the biography, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers by Jeff Pearlman. The show and biography alike focus on the lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers on and off of the court.

The cast includes Jerry Buss (John C. Reilly), Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah), Jerry West (Jason Clarke), Pat Riley (Adrien Brody), Claire Rothman (Gaby Hoffmann), Jack McKinney (Tracy Letts), Paul Westhead (Jason Segel), Cranny McKinney (Julianne Nicholson), and many more.

HBO confirmed that Adam Mckay (Don’t Look Up) is the director of the pilot episode. Mckay is the executive producer of the series as well, alongside Kevin Messick, Max Borenstein, Jim Hecht, Jason Shuman, Scott Stephens, and Rodney Barnes. Borenstein and Hecht also created and wrote the series.
