Amanda Bynes is Free From Conservatorship After New Ruling
The nine-year-long conservatorship of former childhood actress Amanda Bynes was officially terminated by a judge on Tuesday. In a quick five-minute hearing, Ventura County Judge Roger Lund stated, “The conservatorship is no longer needed or required, and therefore the petition for termination is granted.”
Bynes’ conservatorship ends less than a month after the Nickelodeon star filed the initial termination petition.
In 2013, the actress was placed under conservatorship after several cases of concerning behavior—including allegedly starting a fire in a woman’s driveway. She was 27 at the time. Shortly after that, her mother Lynn was granted complete control of her daughter’s financial and personal affairs.
However, Bynes’ attorney David Esquibias claims, “Amanda’s conservatorship was a collaborative effort with her parents.” He also stated that the young starlet never fought against the decision.

Then, a year after her conservatorship began, Bynes tweeted that she had been diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder and manic depression. She also was receiving multiple forms of treatment (including medical, psychological, and psychiatric).
Now at 36 years old, Bynes is in a significantly better place and no longer requires her mother Lynn’s constant care and management.
This is a WIN for us all! It just shows what we can do when we stand together for something right! I hope Amanda Bynes finds all the happiness in this world! 💗 #FreeAmanda #FreeAmandaBynes pic.twitter.com/S91fePkiJp

In fact, Lynn was incredibly supportive when her daughter first petitioned to terminate her conservatorship. “Lynn is excited about the next chapter in Amanda’s life and being there for Amanda as her mother,” Lynn’s attorney Tamar Arminak revealed.
“In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently,” Bynes recently told People, “And I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter.”
