Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel Is Delayed
The release date for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has been delayed to June 2, 2023. The initial premiere date for the film was originally set for October 3.
The news was made by Sony ahead of CinemaCon, where the creators of the Spider-Verse films, Phil Lord (21 Jump Street) and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie), attended. The duo gave some insight into what to expect for the series, claiming that the Spider-Verse will get “way, way bigger.”

Lord and Miller also showed a 15-minute preview of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse before announcing the release date for the part II installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. With the delay of the first part, the sequel is expected to be set back.
The preview starts with Gwen Stacy a.k.a. Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld) on Earth-65. After finding Vulture is attacking the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan, she decides to confront him. However, everything takes a left turn and the villain quickly escapes.
In a series of events, Stacy then runs into another Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Issac). Upon meeting Stacy, he scolds her because she left a wormhole wide enough to allow villains like Vulture into a new dimension.
Not only does Stacy meet a new Spider-Man, but she also encounters another Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew (Issa Rae). In the preview, Drew is five months pregnant and unaware of the gender of her baby as her partner wants it to be a surprise.
The main character, Miles Morales, is also featured in the preview. Morales is still struggling with being a superhero and a typical college student. In the clip, the superhero is shown trying to fight bad guys while also running late for a college counseling session.
The cast for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse consists of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Oscar Issac, Jake Johnson, and Issa Rae.

The first film in the series, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, came out in 2018, where it made over $375 million and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
While fans of the Spider-Verse franchise won’t be able to see the sequel until next year, they can watch the first film on Prime Video. The trailer is available down below.
