Ashanti Set to Release New Children’s Book, My Name Is A Story
Grammy-award singer, songwriter, and actress Ashanti is now stepping into a new venture, children’s books. The singer announced that she is making a book called My Name Is A Story, which comes out July 19.
In an Instagram post announcing the news, the “Foolish” singer stated, “I’m so excited to finally share the news that my debut picture book MY NAME IS A STORY comes out on July 19! Inspired by my own experiences, I wrote this book to remind children that every name is special and deserves to be honored and celebrated. Every name tells a story.”
According to Ashanti, the book tells the empowering story of how a girl learns to love her unique and often mispronounced name. The singer stated how the book is meant to be an “inspiration to anyone who has been made fun of because their name was different.” HarperCollins is publishing the children’s book under their subdivision, HarperKids.
In addition to entering the publishing world, Ashanti is getting more recognition for her work in music. A few weeks ago, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame near the anniversary of her debut album, Ashanti.

During the ceremony, the singer mentioned, “It’s surreal… I’m shocked, stunned, and over the top grateful. This is a staple in my career, and the fact that it will be here forever is a big deal. I’m not a super emotional person, so the fact that I cried a little bit today is a little weird for me. I’m so humbled and overjoyed to have friends, family, and genuine people here supporting me that I love.”
