Supreme Court Discusses the Powerful Concerns of Future Abortion Rights
Earlier this week, the supreme court revealed a leaked draft discussing the supreme court’s views on overturning Roe vs. Wade, which establishes the right to abortion in the United States. This gives the states the right to determine if the procedure would be legal or not.
If Roe vs. Wade were to be reversed, a few states would make the abortion policy effective immediately. For example, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and South Dakota would ban abortion instantly. On the other hand, there will be states that will have to make the ban law.
At its core, Roe v. Wade recognizes the fundamental right to privacy.

When the right to privacy is attacked, anyone in our country may face a future where the government can interfere in their personal decisions.
Not just women. Anyone.
All of the states listed makes an exception for abortion if the fetus is affecting the mothers health negatively, but none of these states make an exception for rape or sexual abuse.
In some states, there is a certain number of weeks of pregnancy you must be to receive an abortion. For example, Florida recently passed a 15-week ban on an abortion bill. If you are over 15 weeks pregnant, it is not legal to receive an abortion.
After the draft was leaked, women worldwide gathered at their state capitol and even the nation’s capital to protest this serious matter. The New York Times tells the story of Mary Screens, who is a mother that is scared for what this decision may look like for the future generations to come.
“She said she worries now about the children who will be born to mothers who are unable or unwilling to care for them. Some will probably be adopted, she said, but not all of them”.
A video of Senator Elizabeth Warren was leaked showing her distraught over the supreme court’s decision. Other politicians like Hillary Clinton posted tweets voicing her concerns about the news.
Not surprising. But still outrageous.

This decision is a direct assault on the dignity, rights, & lives of women, not to mention decades of settled law. It will kill and subjugate women even as a vast majority of Americans think abortion should be legal. What an utter disgrace. https://t.co/TNo1IX3Tl4
Politicians ask that everyone vote in their primary and state elections because if the choice is left up to the states, it’s up to the leaders we elect in our local races
