Lightbox has released the first trailer for The Princess where it dives into the life of the late Princess Diana.

The documentary is directed by Ed Perkins (Black Sheep), who first revealed the project at a Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The final project premieres on June 11 at the Sundance Film Festival in London. It will be released in theatres worldwide on June 30.

The Princess shows a unique perspective on Princess Diana, differing from other documentaries through the use of archive material which makes it an immersive experience for the audience.

The documentary will explore the era Princess Diana lived in, how it influenced her actions and the public’s relationship with her.

Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn will be producers for the documentary.

Perkins discusses about how his documentary will vary from others in an interview at Deadline’s Virtual Sundance studio where he stated “something highly immersive and experiential, and that by eschewing — by getting rid of all the traditional kind of hindsight analysis you get from present-day interviews. Where people are looking back on events that happened 20 or 30 years ago, you are able then to live in the contemporaneous archive material. So the aim is to try to allow it to unfold in the present tense.”

When he discusses about his inspiration behind exploring Princess Diana’s story, he discusses, “Over the years, this story has probably been told more times over the storytelling genres than almost any other. We felt we should only take this on if we felt we had something new to say or a different perspective or vantage point from which to say it.”
