Julia Garner Is Selected to Play Madonna in Upcoming Film
Get ready for the next Material Girl. Ozark actress Julia Garner has been selected by the Queen of Pop, Madonna, to play her in her upcoming project.
The Madonna project was confirmed by the “Like A Virgin” singer on Instagram. The singer gave fans an update on her film, writing that the script was almost finished.
Madonna’s quest at finding the perfect actress to embody her was no easy task. The famed “Madonna BootCamp” consisted of 11-hour choreography sessions as well as line reading and singing auditions with the “Material Girl” singer. Garner was in competition with Florence Pugh (Little Women), Alexa Demie (Euphoria), Odessa Young, and Emma Laird, among countless others contending for the role of a lifetime.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Madonna expressed how important it was for her to take charge of writing her own story, rather than it being told from the perspective of others. She states, “The reason I’m doing it is because a bunch of people have tried to write movies about me, but they’re always men.” Madonna grew tired of that narrative, ultimately deciding that she would take control and write a film about her own experiences in the music industry. She reveals, “I just said there’s nobody on this planet that can write or direct a movie about me better than me.”
Despite the grueling audition process, Julia Garner became a quick favorite. The project will focus on the pop icon’s early days. Madonna hopes to “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell them than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
