Jane Goodall Honored with New Barbie Doll
The iconic Barbie doll is getting ready for her next endeavor. The latest doll is inspired by primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall.
Barbie’s latest model is getting a very special makeover. Mattel announced the latest model for The Barbie® Inspiring Women™ Series, which “pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time; courageous women who took risks, changed rules, and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before.”
Barbie is recognizing the work of Dr. Jane Goodall, one of the world’s most popular conservationists. This great honor comes at the perfect time with World Chimpanzee Day arriving on July 14. Goodall’s six-decade-long career pays homage to her environmentalism in the best way, as does her Barbie, which is made up of 90 percent recycled plastic.

The icon expressed her excitement, revealing that she is “absolutely delighted to see herself as a Barbie doll and hopes that her Barbie will inspire little girls everywhere.” The doll’s accessories come with a “notebook and pair of binoculars and wear field attire featuring a khaki shirt, shorts, and boots.” In addition, Goodall’s most famous subject, chimpanzee David Graybeard is also part of the adorable ensemble.

Lisa McKnight, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Barbie and Dolls at Mattel, is thrilled to honor the work of the great Dr. Jane Goodall. McKnight states, “Kids need more role models like Dr. Jane Goodall because imagining they can be anything is just the beginning – seeing it makes all the difference.”
She continues, “We hope this collection and homage to a groundbreaking pioneer for women in science inspires girls to learn more about green careers, how they can protect the planet, and act out sustainable stories in their doll play.”
