Community Is Returning With a New Film on Peacock TV
Six seasons and a movie. After years of waiting, the sitcom has finally confirmed a film adaptation starring Joel Mchale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, and the rest of the Community cast.
Joel Mchale (Jefferey Winger), Gillian Jacobs (Britta Perry), Allison Brie (Annie Eddison), and Danny Pudi (Abed Nadir) will reprise their roles in the new Community film. While the rest of the cast hasn’t been confirmed yet, Joel Mchale tagged fellow Community cast members as well as Donald Glover (Troy Barnes) on a Twitter post with the image reading, “…And A Movie.”

When Donald Glover announced he was leaving Community in 2014, he also said goodbye to his character, Troy Barnes. Barnes left the study group to sail the world with a humongous inheritance from Pierce Hawthorne, with the help of Star Trek star LeVar Burton. Although Donald Glover went on to pursue projects such as Atlanta and his music, fans still hope for him to return as Troy Barnes.
The series first aired on NBC in 2009. The story follows a group of students navigating the strange antics of Greendale Community College. Fans immediately fell in love with the cast. Not only was the show filled with clever comedic quips, but it was also infused with heartfelt scenes and character development. The series is known to showcase experimental episodes and give fans a cinematic experience crafted by the Russo brothers.
Netflix has become a haven for series that have been dropped from television networks. It wasn’t until Community was signed to Netflix that it finally blew up during the pandemic. It has given fans hope that Community will finally fulfill the prophetic phrase: “Six seasons and a movie.”

“Six seasons and a movie started out as a cheeky line from Community’s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious, and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy,” states Susan Rovner, Chairman of NBC Universal Television and streaming.
Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty) had reported in August that he already outlined the plot for the film. To Harmon, it was all a matter of when not if. While fans have expected Netflix to provide the funding for the series, Peacock TV took the chance instead, and fans are not complaining.

Community cast members took to social media to announce the news. Danny Pudi posts on Instagram the words “…And A Movie,” marking his location as “Dreamatoirum,” a reference to the playroom he and Donald Glover’s character had created in the show. In addition, Pudi had also posted a video showcasing Allison Brien, Jim Rash, and himself on the set of Community, dancing hilariously and yelling “Buried treasure.”
Alison Brie also expressed her excitement with the same “…And A Movie,” post-Danny had used, captioning “Let’s gooooo 😏.”
In an exclusive interview, Joel Mchale shared the film’s development details. He claims, “We’ve already shot it! We shot all three parts– it’s like The Hobbit.” It’s no surprise that the film had already been shot, considering that Harmon had already outlined the plot of the upcoming movie.
Community has a history of battling low ratings and cancellations. Joel Mchale reveals that he can’t believe that the film is being made, even after the show had been canceled twice during its run. He describes this experience as “a dream come true.”
Fans agree that the film’s announcement is a defining moment in the series’ history. Community has persevered through many obstacles on its television network. But despite those hurdles, the cast remains close and loving to each other, just as they were on set. While the film’s plot is still under wraps, Community’s loyal fans will be waiting for its release on Peacock Tv.
