Millions of girls worldwide face challenges in getting their education. Thankfully, Michelle Obama is breaking down those barriers by launching the ‘Get Her There’ Campaign.

Tuesday was International Girl’s Day, and there truly was no better way to celebrate than the launching of such a fantastic campaign. There are positives for educated women, including poverty decrease, economic growth, and maternal health improvement. The Girls Opportunity Alliance, a program spawning from the Obama Foundation, launched its ‘Get Her There’ campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to empower girls around the world to reach their full potential through education.

The campaign starts by sharing the unique journeys of nine girls around their pursuit of higher education. The former first lady sat down with Little star Marsai Martin and Ingrid Tuy, a student from Guatemala, to hear their thoughts on the initiative.

Tuy opens up about the low percentage of indigenous girls that graduate from high school. Fortunately, Tuy is resilient through her challenges and chose to continue learning through the Girls Opportunity Alliance at MAIA Impact School. Tuy declares, “Many people have not believed in me, but I decided to believe in myself.” She continues, “MAIA helped me finish school and graduate. Going there was the best decision I’ve ever made.”

“Get Her There is about getting every girl the opportunities she deserves,” Marsai Martin responded when asked what the campaign mission means to her. In addition, she reveals why she decided to participate in spreading the message. She explains, “I believe in the amazing things that we as young women can do and the ways our whole world benefits when we get that chance, so I knew I had to get involved.”

The initiative will fund more than one hundred global organizations in order to improve the education of every girl around the world. To learn how you can get involved visit the ‘Get Her There’ website here.
