HBO’s The Last of Us has once again broken the internet, this time, for an editing mistake in its most recent episode: “Kin.”

Slight Spoilers Ahead for Episode Six of The Last of Us.

HBO’s The Last of Us is the company’s latest smash hit. The television series is based on the video game franchise of the same name. Viewers follow Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Joel (Pedro Pascal) on their quest for survival in a post-apocalyptic world. The series has been praised for its heart-wrenching and sensitive scenes, as well as its impressive cinematography.

Episode six, “Kin,” focuses on Joel and his brother Tommy’s relationship. Before the two reunite, we see Ellie and Joel on their journey to Jackson, Wyoming. This journey involves passage over a snow-covered bridge.

At around the 15:16 mark, viewers spotted what appeared to be members of the series’ crew and production staff at the edge of the frame. Funnily enough, Bella Ramsey’s Ellie observes the landscape and comments “River of Death. Still no people.”

Fans had varying responses to the editing mistake. Some made memes of the situation and pointed it out in kindness to the showrunners. Others were a bit disgruntled that the program’s production team, with a massive budget, overlooked a mistake like that.

HBO is known for its high-quality productions, however, this is not the first time fans have spotted a mistake in one of their productions. In 2019, an episode aired of Game of Thrones that included a disposable Starbucks Coffee Cup. This mistake led to a mass swarm of memes and the cup’s disappearance from the clip.

Despite the editing mistake, fans are praising The Last of Us in many ways. Fans loved seeing the emotional moments from the game come to life, like when Joel reminds Ellie that he “sure as hell ain’t her dad.” Small moments caught the viewer’s attention. For example, when Dina, who plays a larger role in the sequel to the game, observes Ellie eating ravenously. Fans also praised Pedro Pascal’s performance, noting his realistic emotional vulnerability.

To catch up with the hit series, The Last of Us is streaming on HBO Max.
