New Film Joy Ride to Screen at Cinemacon, Will Receive Ensemble of the Year Award
Adele Lim’s directorial debut Joy Ride will screen at CinemaCon on April 24 and the cast including Stephanie Hsu, Sabrina Wu, Ashley Park, and Sherry Cola will receive CinemaCon’s Comedy Ensemble of the Year Award.
Joy Ride received early praise with its debut at SXSW telling the story of four friends who set out on a wild international adventure on a discovery of self-identity which gets hilariously explicit at times; the trailer showcases screaming, punching, inadvertent drug smuggling, and KPOP impersonation in international airports.
Joy Ride stars Stephanie Hsu who recently became an Oscar nominee for A24’s Oscar-winning best picture Everything Everywhere All At Once. Hsu has been seen in her recurring role on the Emmy- and SAG Award-winning Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a guest-starring role on the series Poker Face (Peacock), and will soon be seen as a guest appearance on American Born Chinese, a Disney+ series. Stephanie also will be seen in Universal’s The Fall Guy opposite Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
If you “don’t know, now you know,” that Ashley Park is a Tony, Grammy, and Critics Choice Award nominee. We’ve seen her amazing performance recently in Netflix’s series Emily in Paris which already has season 4 in the works. Park is also included in the upcoming Netflix series Beef and Hulu’s fan-favorite Only Murders in the Building. Park is also well known for Mr. Malcolm’s List, Girls 5eva, Tales of the City on Netflix, and Nightcap on Pop/Lionsgate Television.
Ashely is in production on the forthcoming Mean Girls movie (Paramount Pictures) and also starred as Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls on Broadway. She earned a Tony Award, Drama League, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Chita Rivera Award nominations. Ashley also starred in KPOP, won the Lucille Lortel Award for Lead Actress in a Musical, and also earned her second Drama League and Drama Desk nominations. As though that wasn’t enough she also starred in Mamma Mia!, The King and I, Sunday in the Park With George and Grand Horizons.
The award-winning cast also includes Sherry Cola known for I Love Dick, Claws, and Good Trouble, and actor, writer, and stand-up comedian Sabrina Wu who made their late-night stand-up debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this past fall. Joy Ride also stars Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians), Annie Mumolo (Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar), Desmond Chiam (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), David Denman (Greenland), Alexander Hodge (Insecure), Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians) and Lori Tan Chinn (Awkwafina is Nora From Queens).
Joy Ride is brought to you by the same producers who worked on Neighbors including Seth Rogen, James Weaver, Josh Fagen, Cherry Chevapravatdumrong, Teresa Hsiao, and Adele Lim. The film includes the same co-screenwriter of Crazy Rich Asians with a screenplay by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao and story by the same team including Adele Lim.
