Emma Chamberlain Addresses Accusations Of Selling $10k Direct Messages
Emma Chamberlain has spoken out about the controversy surrounding her merch website allegedly selling 10 thousand-dollar direct messages. This came after online criticism and jokes surrounding the situation.
Emma Chamberlain has gone from being a teenage Youtube sensation to a full-on celebrity in only a few years. The star has also started her own coffee company, Chamberlain Coffee, and attended important industry events such as the Met Gala and the Vanity Fair Oscar Afterparty.
Chamberlain is Lancome’s newest global ambassador and has been featured on the cover of major magazines such as Vogue Australia. Fans love her authenticity, despite her immense success and have continued to support her throughout her latest endeavors.
Chamberlain has recently found herself amidst controversy after a screenshot circulated online of her merch website. The site showed a listing offering a “personal thank you note” in the form of a direct message from Chamberlain that cost 10 thousand dollars. A Twitter user posted the listing, tweeting along with it, “why is emma chamberlain charging 10K for an instagram DM this is wild.”

In a statement to E! News, the star made it clear that she was “eager to set the story straight.” Chamberlain explained, “…I started seeing comments asking why I was selling a DM for $10k. I assumed this was an online scam, as I had never offered to sell a DM for any amount of money, let alone $10k.” She then detailed checking the site to ensure it was not hacked but revealed that she “couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary.”
Chamberlain then reached out to her merch company, Cozack, for them to investigate the issue. In their statement, Cozack explained, “in 2018, Cozack (Emma’s merch company) was testing a prospective reward program related to Emma’s Merch without her knowledge.”
They detailed creating an “outrageous, never activated reward level that was not intended to be active or purchased.” Cozack made it abundantly clear that the listing was “simply intended for internal testing purposes.”
“sorry, I can’t go out tonight. I need to save money for my $902.58 monthly ShopPay bill for the Emma Chamberlain dm I bought earlier this year” https://t.co/GzWJxDrd8h

Cozack speculated that the data was “discovered by an individual who then began spreading false information to press outlets.” They again emphasized that this listing was never made public on the site and was “certainly was never planned to be sold or purchased.” Further, “The test program was never discoverable on the main page or product listing site.”
Cozack and Chamberlain herself have made it clear that the star was just as blindsided by the listing as the rest of the internet. Twitter took the opportunity to poke fun at Chamberlain for what appeared to be an absurd cash grab.
