The beloved actress, singer, and fashion icon Jane Birkin has passed away at 76.

Hollywood personnel and fans from all around the world are mourning the loss of Jane Birkin. The British-born singer-songwriter succeeded wildly in the entertainment industry, specifically when collaborating with the late French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg.

After appearing in the 1966 film, Blow Up, Birkin joined the romantic comedy, Slogan, in 1968 opposite Serge Gainsbourg. This coupling would lead the duo to incredible heights, beginning a decades-long musical and romantic partnership.

Arguably France’s most popular couple, the duo collaborated on their famous song, “Je T’Aime… Moi Non Plus,” which translates to “I Love You… Me Neither.” In a 2006 interview with CNN, Birkin expressed, “He and I became the most famous of couples in that strange way because of ‘Je t’aime’ and because we stuck together for 13 years… And he went on being my friend until the day he died. Who could ask for more? So Paris became my home. I’ve been adopted here.”

In addition to Birkin’s blossoming acting career and musical prowess, Birkin became the inspiration behind the iconic Hermès Birkin handbag. According to Hermès, the design originated from a chance encounter between Birkin and former executive chairman of Hermès Jean-Louis Dumas. The story reveals, “while sitting beside her on a plane, Dumas overheard Birkin complaining that she wanted a bag that suited her needs as a young mother. He created the coveted accessory and named it after her.”

Jane Birkin held a beautiful career in French cinema, fashion, and singing. She will be terribly missed but her work will continue to live on forever.
