Warner Bros. confirms that Ryan Gosling will campaign for Best Supporting Actor following his unforgettable role as Ken. The hit film Barbie is set to sweep this upcoming award season.

Following the release of the hit film, Barbie was a frontrunner to sweep the award season in 2024. Barbie, already set as the year’s highest-grossing movie, is expecting a second wind as the iMAX version hits theaters. So far, the film has grossed over $1.4 billion and seems to be racking up award nominations by the day.

Apart from the film’s success, fans and critics alike were quick to pick up on the talent of supporting actor Ryan Gosling. Gosling’s performance in Barbie helped make it the success it is today. After much anticipation, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed what we all hoped: Gosling is being nominated for Best Supporting Actor. The studio is set to submit Gosling for the next award season officially.

Barbie is in the running for nominations in several other categories, including, but not limited to, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound and Score, Best Picture, Best Director, and potentially Best Actress. The film also has the potential of being nominated for two songs, though the studio can submit up to three. The “Barbenheimer” debate is still real and will be prevalent in the upcoming award season. Both Barbie and Oppenheimer are set to be nominated in several of the same categories. Hopefully, after the awards are divvied out, can the “Barbenheimer” debate be put to rest.

Designated nominations cannot officially be decided until January 11, 2024, when nomination ballots open for voting. However, this does not have fans worried as Gosling’s scene-stealing performance in Barbie will gain him the recognition he deserves. The Canadian actor, known to stand out in his comedic role as Ken, has previously been nominated for Best Actor in Half Nelson along with La La Land. This is Gosling’s third Academy Award nomination and could potentially be his first win.

Be sure to check out Gosling’s unforgettable performance in Barbie while it’s still in theaters.
